Bishop’s Dinner Speaker
KC coach headlines benefit for schools

The Catholic School Foundation of the Diocese of Sioux City has announced former Kansas City Chiefs coach Herm Edwards as the keynote speaker for the 2014 Annual Bishop’s Dinner for Catholic Schools. The dinner is scheduled for Oct. 12 at the Sioux City Convention Center.

Edwards coached the Chiefs from 2006 to 2009. Prior to his time in Kansas City, Edwards coached the New York Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is one of only five coaches in NFL history to have taken two different teams to the playoffs in their debut seasons. Currently, Edwards serves as an NFL analyst for ESPN.

“Coach Edwards is known not only for his tremendous ability to motivate people to do their very best, but to also remember our abilities and gifts are a blessing from God. His deep Catholic faith is the foundation for everything he does in his life,” said Bishop Walker Nickless. “As an NFL fan myself, I am very much looking forward to hearing his inspiring words.”

The Bishop’s Dinner serves as the single largest fundraiser benefiting 16 Catholic school systems throughout northwest Iowa. More than 6,300 students receive a faith-based education every year with 100 percent of the proceeds from the dinner being distributed back to the schools in the form of educational enhancement grants.

The 2013 dinner raised more than $178,000.

Tickets to the dinner go on sale Sept. 1 and can be purchased at scdiocese.org. For more information, contact the office of communications at (712) 233-7524.
